Francis Hadeed Says Uncle’s Legacy Will Live On Through Family and Business

Francis Hadeed on Saturday described his late uncle, Sir Aziz Hadeed, as a mentor, father figure and trusted guide whose influence helped shape both his family and the businesses he built.
Delivering a tribute on behalf of the Hadeed family during the official funeral service at Holy Family Cathedral, Francis Hadeed said Sir Aziz’s impact extended far beyond his achievements in business.
“Uncle Aziz was much more than an uncle. He was a father figure, a mentor, a guide and a dear friend,” he told mourners.

Hadeed said he and his brother Andrew had the privilege of working alongside Sir Aziz for decades and benefited from lessons that would remain with them for life.
He recalled that Sir Aziz taught them that every customer mattered, regardless of background or social standing, and insisted that family members earn their place in the business rather than receive special treatment.
“When Andrew and I joined the business, we did not get any special privileges,” Hadeed said. “We both started on the showroom floor learning the business from the ground up.”
According to Hadeed, Sir Aziz believed success should be measured not only by financial achievement but by the lives a person touches and the opportunities they create for others.
He said his uncle quietly assisted countless individuals and families throughout his life without seeking recognition, adding that the outpouring of support following his death reflected the respect and admiration he earned across Antigua and Barbuda.
“The outpouring of love we have witnessed over the past few weeks is a testament to the extraordinary life he lived,” Hadeed said.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with Sir Aziz, Hadeed described him as one of the greatest men he had ever known and credited his mentorship, guidance and friendship with helping shape his life and career.
He pledged that the family would continue to uphold the values and principles that guided Sir Aziz throughout his life.
“We will carry forward the lessons you taught us, uphold the standards you set and ensure future generations understand and appreciate the foundation you worked so hard to build,” Hadeed said.
Sir Aziz died on May 23 and was laid to rest following the official funeral service. Family members said his legacy would continue through the businesses, institutions and people he influenced over the course of his life.
