Ministry Moves to Regularize Crown Lands Used for Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries and the Blue Economy is requiring all former tenants of government-owned agricultural lands previously managed by the Agriculture Development Corporation (ADC) to regularize their tenancy or risk losing access to the property.

In a public notice dated July 27, Permanent Secretary Walter Christopher said that, under Cabinet Decision No. 20 of Nov. 19, 2025, all lands formerly administered by the ADC are now under the direct management of the ministry.

The ministry said the lands are government-owned and designated for agricultural production in the national interest. As part of efforts to strengthen food and nutrition security, all former tenants are required to regularize their tenancy through the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Extension Division.

The notice states that legitimate tenants must promptly schedule appointments to confirm they are actively cultivating the land.

According to the ministry, lands that are not being brought into production will be reallocated to farmers who are prepared and able to contribute to national agricultural output.

The ministry also called on stakeholders and the wider public to support the initiative, saying it is aimed at strengthening food security and promoting agricultural sustainability in Antigua and Barbuda.
