An official notice from the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission is reminding employers that workers must be given time off to vote during the 2026 general elections.

Under Section 34(1) of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2001, every employer is legally required to allow each voter four consecutive hours to cast their ballot on polling day.

The law also makes it clear that employers cannot deduct pay or impose any penalty on workers for taking this time to vote.

The provision is intended to ensure that all eligible voters have a fair opportunity to participate in the electoral process, regardless of their work schedule.
