A mild earthquake measuring 3.7 in magnitude struck the region near Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday afternoon. The tremor occurred at 12:21 pm local time (16:21 UTC) on January 20, 2025, at a depth of 56 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.
The epicenter was located at latitude 18.05N and longitude 62.24W, approximately 113 kilometers northwest of Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, and about 139 kilometers north of Brades, Montserrat.
The event was detected by the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC), which issued a preliminary location based on automated computer algorithms. The centre has cautioned that the information is subject to change following further analysis by their experts.
No immediate reports of damage or injuries have been confirmed.
