Early Antigua and Barbuda election unlikely, says pollster

An early general election in Antigua and Barbuda is unlikely, with voting expected in late 2026 or early 2027, according to regional pollster Peter Wickham.

Speaking to Antigua.news, Wickham said the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) could benefit from a strategically timed election after major political events, including a regional summit.
“The expectation is for a December 2026 or January 2027 election,” he said. The ABLP holds a narrow nine-seat majority in the 17-seat parliament following the 2023 vote.
Wickham added that the party’s position could be strengthened by political momentum and economic activity from national and regional engagements, suggesting Prime Minister Gaston Browne will likely wait for favourable conditions before calling a vote.
