The leader of the Dominican community in Antigua and Barbuda, Alex Martínez, has called for a fair and transparent investigation into the recent murder of a nine-year-old girl, urging authorities to focus on identifying those truly responsible rather than placing blame on an entire community.

In a Facebook Live address, originally delivered in Spanish and translated, Martínez expressed deep sorrow over the crime and reaffirmed the Dominican community’s condemnation of such acts. However, he also raised concerns about growing anti-Dominican sentiment following reports that a Dominican national may be implicated.

“Our community is being dragged into this when the actions of one person should not define an entire group. If someone commits a crime, they alone must face justice,” he stated. “We demand answers, but we also demand fairness. Justice must be served, but it must be served properly.”

Martínez highlighted that while the community stands in solidarity with the victim’s family, there have been disturbing online comments inciting hostility against Dominicans in Antigua and Barbuda. He warned against retaliatory violence and urged the authorities to ensure that all individuals, regardless of nationality, receive due process.

“There are voices spreading hate, calling for attacks on Dominicans. This is dangerous. Innocent people should not suffer for the actions of one person. Let the police do their work, and let the truth come to light,” he added.
