A High Court jury has returned a guilty verdict against Dequan Yearwood, who faced charges of unlawful sexual intercourse involving a 14-year-old minor.

The decision, reached by an 8-1 majority, follows detailed trial proceedings that shed light on the incident, which occurred in January 2022 at Yearwood’s apartment.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that the complainant, who has special needs, functions at a developmental level approximately three years below her chronological age.

The case was brought to the attention of authorities after the victim’s mother overheard a conversation among her children, which led to the discovery of the incident. Subsequent discussions with the complainant confirmed her involvement.

Yearwood maintained his innocence throughout the trial. However, the jury concluded otherwise, leading to his conviction. He is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on December 13, where a judge will determine the appropriate penalty.
