The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has endorsed the Government of Antigua and Barbuda’s decision to fund CSEC examination fees for all students across public and private schools, describing the move as a major step toward strengthening access to quality education.

In a statement, CXC said the initiative comes at a time of significant global change and reflects a strong commitment to inclusive and equitable learning opportunities. The organisation added that the measure aligns with its regional mission of “igniting the potential and shaping the future of our Caribbean people.”

Wayne Wesley, Registrar and CEO of CXC, commended the government and the Ministry of Education, Sports and the Creative Industries for expanding access to CXC’s internationally recognised credentials. He said the policy creates a sustainable pathway to higher education and workforce readiness, with benefits that will extend across generations.

The endorsement follows the government’s wider education reforms, including free tuition at the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus once its expansion is completed, and tuition-free studies at the Antigua and Barbuda Community College School of Agriculture (ABCAS).

CXC said these combined investments will have a “profoundly positive and lasting impact” on the youth of Antigua and Barbuda and contribute to national development.
