Cricketing Legends Among Antigua and Barbuda’s Official Delegation for Sir Garfield Sobers’ State Funeral

Cabinet has approved a high-level delegation of Antigua and Barbuda’s leading cricket figures to attend the state funeral of West Indies great Sir Garfield Sobers in Barbados.
The delegation will include national hero Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Andy Roberts, Sir Curtly Ambrose and Sir Richie Richardson. Sports Minister Dwayne George, a former national cricketer, will also represent the country.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant reported the Cabinet’s decision during Thursday’s post-Cabinet news briefing.
“Together, they will pay the nation’s final respects to one of the greatest cricketers the world has ever known and a towering figure in Caribbean history,” Merchant said.
Cabinet said the delegation reflects the deep admiration and respect Antigua and Barbuda holds for Sobers, whose achievements transcended cricket and inspired generations across the Caribbean.
The state funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne previously paid tribute to Sobers, while Cabinet directed that flags on public buildings be flown at half-staff in his honour.
