Chandera Codrington, representing Miss Furniture Gallery, emerged victorious in the Queen of Carnival public speaking competition held at Casa Palmadita in Fitches Creek on Tuesday night.
The competition, co-produced by Brucilla Marsh of Marsh and Marsh Productions, tested the communication skills of the seven delegates. Each contestant spoke for two minutes on a chosen platform and faced questions from a seven-member panel of judges.
Alicia Knowles of the Ministry of Education, head judge, praised the high level of discussion but noted that many delegates relied too much on notes, impacting their eye contact and connection with the audience. She suggested allowing more time for future presentations to enhance the depth of arguments.
The competition awarded only a single prize, with Codrington advancing to the finals on July 21 at Carnival City.
