Calypso Heritage Fraternity Launched to Unite Artistes and Safeguard Musical Legacy

Antigua and Barbuda’s Calypso tradition has been given a renewed national platform with the official launch of the Calypso Heritage Fraternity of Antigua & Barbuda (CHFAB), an organisation dedicated to strengthening unity among Calypsonians, preserving the country’s cultural heritage and elevating the artform locally and internationally.
Operating under the motto “Uniting Voices, Preserving Heritage,” the fraternity aims to create a structured space for collaboration among artists while promoting professional development and higher performance standards. Organisers say the initiative is designed not only to celebrate Calypso’s historical importance but also to ensure its continued growth and relevance in a modern cultural landscape.
Beyond performance, CHFAB intends to advocate for the rights and recognition of Calypso artistes, ensuring their contributions to national identity are properly acknowledged and supported. The organisation also plans to implement mentorship and educational programmes to inspire emerging talent and connect younger generations to the rich storytelling and social commentary that define the genre.
Leaders of the fraternity describe the launch as a significant step toward consolidating the Calypso community, strengthening institutional support and positioning Antigua and Barbuda’s Calypso on the regional and global stage.
The organisation is inviting Calypsonians, cultural partners, government representatives and members of the public to become involved in the initiative. Additional details regarding membership, events and upcoming activities are expected to be released in the coming weeks as CHFAB begins its work to preserve, promote and advance the nation’s Calypso heritage.
