Break-in

The owner of Kess Imports is urging improved police response after his business was broken into twice within four days.

The first incident occurred on 2 December when he discovered a kitchen door open during a routine check. CCTV later showed a man being dropped off by a black vehicle before climbing through a small window, removing packages and dragging them away in a blue garbage drum. Longfords Police Station was alerted.

A second break-in happened early on 6 December when the alarm was triggered. Monitoring his cameras remotely, the owner saw an intruder inside despite having secured the building hours earlier. He and several companions went to the scene and reported seeing two men carrying packages toward nearby bushes. They fled after being spotted.

Police were again contacted. The man found inside the building was detained until officers arrived, but the owner said police made no effort to pursue the two suspects who escaped, claiming an officer told him they were “already long gone”.

His companions later found a black vehicle parked nearby with a man inside who said he had given someone a ride but could not provide a name. Police were called for a third time and took the man into custody.

The business owner says the repeated break-ins and the perceived lack of urgency from officers highlight the need for stronger policing and better security. Police have not yet commented.
