Brian Murphy, Chairman ABHTA

The Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) has announced the appointment of Mr. Brian Murphy, Director of Operations at

Carlisle Bay Antigua, as Incoming Chairman of the Association.

Mr. Murphy assumes the role following the resignation of Mr. Craig Marshall, who successfully chaired the Association following his election in 2023 and re-election in 2025. Mr. Marshall is vacating the position as he undertakes additional responsibilities outside of the membership of the ABHTA.

The Association expressed sincere appreciation to Mr. Marshall for his dedicated service and leadership during his tenure as Chairman. Mr. Marshall brought a people-centric approach to the mission of the ABHTA and served the Association with passion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism and hospitality industry.

Mr. Murphy’s appointment follows a meeting of the Board of Directors convened on May 11, 2026, to activate Clause 29 of the By-Laws of the Association, which states:

“Should any directorship or executive position become vacant it can be filled at the discretion of the Board of Directors until the next Bi-annual general meeting or;  ordinary or extra ordinary meeting is called for that purpose.”

Following deliberations, the Board of Directors unanimously confirmed Mr. Murphy’s appointment as Chairman of the ABHTA.

Mr. Murphy takes up the role at a particularly significant time for both the Association and the destination, as Antigua and Barbuda hosts the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Marketplace 2026. The premier regional tourism event will bring together tourism stakeholders, international buyers, sellers, and industry leaders from across the globe, placing Antigua and Barbuda firmly in the international spotlight.

The Association noted that the leadership transition ensures continuity and strong representation for the tourism sector during a critical period of regional engagement and destination promotion.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Murphy stated:

“It is an honour to serve as Chairman of the ABHTA at such an important time for our tourism industry and our country. I look forward to fully contributing to the role and continuing the Association’s collaborative relationships with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, our membership, valued tourism partners, and key stakeholders including the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union. Together, we can continue strengthening and advancing our industry for the benefit of all.”

The ABHTA reaffirmed its commitment to advocacy, partnership, and sustainable tourism growth, while emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration between the public and private sectors in maintaining Antigua and Barbuda’s position as a leading Caribbean tourism destination.
