The Directorate of Gender Affairs (DoGA) has just concluded the Boys Summer Summit.

The 2-day programme which was open to boys between the ages of 11 to 15 years allowed the boys to have a safe space in which they can express themselves, be vulnerable, be honest, receive guidance and engage in practical discussions about life skills.

The Directorate understands that social norms often pressure boys to conform to harmful stereotypes about masculinity, summit aimed to provide a platform that will facilitate open and honest communication on the part of the participants and the presenters.

The Boys Summer Summit was held on Tuesday, 9t h and Wednesday 10t h July, 2024.

Steered by the Directorate of Gender Affairs in collaboration with the professionals at the Antigua and Barbuda Technical Football Centre, sessions took an informal setting to addressing the boys in their comfort zones while engaging with sport activities.

The activities were all geared toward making them outstanding men in society.

“This year’s Boys Summer Summit not only focused on sport activities, as the team building exercises were geared towards sharing their ideas and effecting positive behavioural change amongst their peers and in the society as a whole” said Ms. Ashlea Ambris, Project Officer at the Department of Gender Affairs.

“We are excited to continue collaborations with sports professionals as we impart resourceful information to the upcoming young men in their comfort zone through educational interactive activities.”
