APUA’s reigning CARILEC champions will travel to Dominica this weekend to compete in the 2026 CARILEC Lineworkers Symposium and Rodeo, joining more than 100 lineworkers from across the Caribbean in a regional event focused on training, safety and technical excellence.

The utility said Team APUA is “gearing up for this year’s regional Lineworkers Rodeo” in Dominica and wished the team success as they prepare to represent Antigua and Barbuda “with skill, pride and determination.”

The event, scheduled for April 24 to 26, 2026, is being hosted by the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation, or CARILEC, in collaboration with Dominica Electricity Services Limited.

Organisers said the symposium and rodeo combine technical training with competition, allowing utility workers from across the region to share knowledge, sharpen field skills and showcase their expertise in a series of practical challenges.

According to the event description, the symposium will give participants the chance to examine solutions currently being used in the field, including new tools, technologies and safety practices.

The rodeo will then test teams in simulated real-world operations designed to measure “precision, speed, teamwork, and commitment to safety.”

The competition is expected to take place at Benjamins Park and will be open to the public, offering residents and visitors a chance to see the high-risk, highly skilled work involved in maintaining electricity systems.

CARILEC Executive Director Dr. Cletus Bertin said the event reflects the strength of regional cooperation in the energy sector.

“The Lineworkers Symposium and Rodeo represents the very best of regional collaboration, bringing together skilled professionals from across the Caribbean to strengthen safety practices, share knowledge, and elevate the standards of our industry,” Bertin said.

He added that hosting the event in Dominica would also give the public a closer look at the work done by utility crews.

“Hosting this event in Dominica provides a valuable opportunity for the local community to see firsthand the expertise required to keep electricity systems operating safely and reliably, while also highlighting the important role utilities like Dominica Electricity Services Limited play in powering regional development,” he said.

CARILEC is a regional association of electric utilities, independent power producers and other energy stakeholders. The organisation supports the Caribbean energy sector through training, technical collaboration, knowledge sharing and disaster response coordination.
