ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Antiguan secondary school student Daniel Athill-Jonas has earned international recognition after winning a special prize at the global Toyota Dream Car Art Contest in Japan.
Athill-Jonas captured the “Waku-Doki” Award — a category recognizing creativity, excitement and innovation — at the world competition hosted by Toyota Motor Corporation. His achievement followed his national victory in the 2023 Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, organized locally by Harney Motors Ltd.
The award carries a total prize of EC$40,000. Athill-Jonas received EC$13,500, while Pares Secondary School, which he represents, was awarded EC$27,000.
The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest invites children from around the world to imagine and design futuristic vehicles, encouraging artistic expression and forward-thinking ideas about mobility.
A photo released by Harney Motors shows Athill-Jonas holding his plaque from Toyota Motor Corporation while standing alongside Mrs. Harney Barnes and Mr. Harney during a local recognition ceremony.
The win marks a significant milestone for the young artist and places Antigua and Barbuda in the spotlight for youth creativity and innovation.
