The Life of a Sommelier

“A 28 years old, internationally accredited, Level WSET  3 Wine Sommelier and Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers,” is what some may think sums up

Jason’s persona in a nutshell. However, there is way more to his story than many are able to interpret.  Here is a taste of what this man has to offer ‘behind the label.’

Mr. White is ambitious, determined, disciplined and self-motivated. Jason has clocked a total of 9 years in the hotel industry, his first job being a bread waiter in the year 2012 at the Grand Pineapple Resort, falling in love with the constant interaction with guests, due to his vibrant personality.

In the year 2013, he was rotated throughout all restaurant outlets, a byproduct due to him adapting very quickly to the environment. He was later enrolled at the Sandals Cooperate University, where he was certified to be a “Guest Service Professional.” As a result, this opportunity sparked him to earn many awards, having been the talk of the town amongst most guests at a consistent rate. He was also Cross Trained in the culinary department, to fully understand the operation from a different lens.

In 2014, Jason resigned after 2 years and 6months, feeling the need to learn more and exploit his talents even further. Thereafter, this desire was fulfilled, as he was employed at Jumby Bay, a Rosewood Resort, as

a seasonal Food & Beverage Server at the Estate House, fine dining restaurant. After being rather impressed with his potential and quality of work, he was granted a permanent position as a Food & Beverage Server within his first year.

Jason has trained year after year to enhance and improve, yet evolve his skills. He’s been trained in every aspect under the food and beverage umbrella, blending flawlessly and carrying out duties effectively and efficiently. He commended many times for his hard work and positive feedback from guests about his

performance. Having the urge to learn more, he expressed his interest in wine where he was trained by Jumby Bay’s former Wine Director. He was then promoted to a Sommelier in 2017.

Mr. White’s experience at Jumby Bay taught him many things. It opened his eyes to a different style of service, which granted him the ability to mentor or train anyone willing to go to a higher level. After furthering his studies, Jason achieved a distinction in ‘Wine and Spirits Level 1,2 & 3:’ this course consists of 4 levels. He will most definitely pursue the minority which is left for his studies. He has not reached the pinnacle in which he desires yet, but he is aspiring a future as a Master Sommelier, Food & Beverage Manager, or even a private Wine Consultant.
