Antiguan and Barbudan author Joanne C. Hillhouse has been longlisted for a Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival (BCLF) writing prize for Caribbean writers living in the Caribbean.

Hillhouse’s selection is separate from the BCLF prize for Caribbean-American writers or Caribbean writers based in the United States, for which Amina Washington has been longlisted.

The distinction clarifies an earlier report that did not adequately differentiate between the two prizes.

Hillhouse, an established author whose work has contributed significantly to Antigua and Barbuda’s literary landscape, is competing in the category specifically recognizing writers residing in the Caribbean.

Washington, meanwhile, is being considered for the separate prize aimed at Caribbean-American and U.S.-based Caribbean writers.

The BCLF prizes provide opportunities for Caribbean writers and writers of Caribbean heritage to gain greater recognition for their work.
