The country’s murder toll has seen a dramatic increase in the first six months of this year, tripling from the same period last year.

Last year, there were two homicides by this time, but this year the number has risen to six.

While some crimes have surged, reports of larceny and malicious damage have significantly decreased.

From January to June 2023, there were 1,141 larceny reports and 426 malicious damage reports, compared to 583 and 265 reports, respectively, in 2024.

Arrests for possession of firearms and ammunition have also dropped.

This year, 37 individuals (26 men, four women, and seven juveniles) were arrested, compared to 70 arrests (53 men, two juveniles, and two women) during the same period last year. Reports of sexual offenses have declined as well, from 19 last year to 13 this year.

Despite these reductions, the overall number of crimes has increased, with 3,425 crimes reported in the first half of 2024, up from 3,166 in the same period of 2023.
