Workers at Antigua Masonry Products have gone on strike once again today, demanding retirement benefits and salary increases.

This is the second strike this week and the third in the past two months, reflecting ongoing difficulties in negotiations with the company’s management.

“Several weeks ago, as the public may be aware, we, the employees of M Product, took strike action. We were attempting to negotiate new collective bargaining agreements for the periods 2020-2023 and 2024-2026. Unfortunately, we have not been able to reach terms that we consider reasonable. As a result, the employees decided to take industrial action.

We resumed industrial action after failing to reach a settlement once again. On Monday, by 11:39 a.m., we were served with a notice from the Industrial Court stating that the employer had referred the matter to the court. According to the law, once a matter is referred to the Industrial Court, the strike action must cease until the court makes a ruling.

On Tuesday, we received notification from the Industrial Court that an urgent case management hearing would take place this Friday. However, shortly after receiving that notice, we learned that the employer had withdrawn the matter from the court on Tuesday morning.

With the case withdrawn from the Industrial Court, we, the employees, retain the right to continue our industrial action, which we have resumed today. We have yet to hear from management, and we intend to remain on the strike line until we decide to take further action.”
