Antigua Government Delivers New Home to Grateful Family in St. John’s City South

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda through the Ministry of Social Transformation Social Protection Program and HAPPI program continues to bring relief to the less fortunate within the twin island state.

Ellaine James of Prince Klass Street within the St. John’s City South constituency is the recent recipient of such assistance as she was handed the keys to her newly refurbished home on Monday April 16h 2025.

It was an emotional handing over ceremony, as James and family could not hold back tears of joy and gratitude by the overwhelming support by the Government, Parliamentary Representative for the area. Sir Steadroy Cutie Benjamin, and all the relevant parties that made renovations possible.

The family thanked the Parliamentary Representative Minister Benjamin for always being a tower of strength, as he never fails to support and lend a helping hand to them and others within the St. John’s City South Constituency.

Whistle addressing the gathering, the Hon. Steadroy Benjamin indicated that the function of a Parliamentary Representative is to serve all his constituents, all year round and to ensure that their well-fair is given the utmost importance.

He recognized the dire need of the James family and ensured that as a representative for the area their needs were met and addressed in a meaningful way.

Caretaker for the St. John’s City South Constituency, Sir Steadroy Cutie Benjamin, mentioned that his government will continue to do whatever it takes to assist the people of this country. 

Benjamin thanked all the relevant parties who played a pivotal role in bringing the project to fruition. He commended the Mary Baltimore, Executive Chair of Social Protection Program and Veldon Ragguette of the Happi Program and also the prisoners who worked on the project. 

Executive Chair of Social Protection Program, within the Ministry of Social Transformation Mary Baltimore says the project is one that is deep rooted in pride, joy and sense of purpose being able to give back to the less fortunate.

She mentioned that the dedication and collaborative effort shown by everyone involved is commendable.

Veldon Ragguette during his short presentation lauded the commitment of the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda for providing approximately one hundred and ninety thousand dollars for the HAPPI program projects.

He says along with the government cooperate sponsors such as Kings Casino, Cool and Smooth, Town House Megastore and others must be commended for always lending support and giving back to the community.

Ragguette mentioned that the HAPPI program will celebrate its 10th anniversary and will continue to work along with the Government, in ensuring that no one is left behind that the less fortunate gets the assistance they need.
