Antigua and Barbuda has committed US$200,000 in humanitarian assistance to Cuba as part of a regional response to ongoing challenges facing the island.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the contribution forms part of a broader CARICOM-led effort to support Cuba, with coordination involving regional partners and international support.

“The government has earmarked initially $200,000 United States dollars towards the humanitarian effort there in the Republic of Cuba,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing.

Officials said the assistance reflects regional solidarity as Caribbean governments respond to economic and supply difficulties affecting Cuba.

The contribution comes as Antigua and Barbuda continues to engage with regional partners on coordinated responses to the situation, particularly as it impacts citizens studying and working on the island.
