Antigua and Barbuda Moves to Strengthen Baking Industry
Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Trade is developing a National Bakeries Policy and backing the formation of a Bakers’ Association to boost industry standards.
At a recent stakeholder consultation, bakery representatives and government officials discussed plans to enhance food security and promote sustainable practices—goals aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, according to Ambassador Clarence E. Pilgrim.
Trade Policy Analyst Nadia James said the new policy would focus on safety and quality, while Deputy Chief Health Inspector Daryl Spencer endorsed the association as a step toward higher industry standards.
Bakers concluded the session by forming a Temporary Board to draft a constitution and lay the groundwork for a permanent association.
