Antigua and Barbuda Ratifies CARICOM Arrest Warrant Treaty to Strengthen Regional Law Enforcement

GIS ANTIGUA: The House of Representatives passed a Resolution authorizing the accession by Antigua and Barbuda to the CARICOM Arrest Warrant Treaty.
The CARICOM Arrest Warrant Treaty was adopted in July 2017 at a meeting of Heads of Government of CARICOM Member States in St Georges, Grenada and came into force on July 10, 2018.
The objective of the Treaty is the establishment of a system, within the Caribbean Community, of arrest and surrender of requested persons for the purpose of criminal prosecution for an offence and the execution of a custodial sentence or greater punishment where the requested person has fled from justice after a conviction or sentence.
The Resolution was piloted by Hon. E.P Chet Greene and debated by Attorney General Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Jamale Pringle, Hon. Trevor Walker and Hon. Richard Lewis.
