Agriculture Ministry Acquires New Equipment to Expand Support for Farmers
Agriculture Minister Hon. Anthony Smith Jr. says the Ministry has begun receiving new heavy-duty equipment and tractors as part of efforts to strengthen support for farmers and boost national food production.
In a statement, Smith said the acquisition marks a key step in developing the Ministry’s heavy-duty equipment unit, which is expected to improve its capacity to assist farmers across Antigua and Barbuda.
The new equipment will support a range of agricultural activities, including land clearing, construction of ponds and dams, land preparation, and the repair of farm roads.
Smith noted that while the tractors arrived in blue, they were symbolically presented in red for the announcement, adding a lighthearted touch to what he described as a significant milestone.
He said the investment forms part of a broader strategy to increase agricultural productivity, provide greater support to farmers, and strengthen food security.
“The work continues,” Smith added.
