The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) will host a candlelight vigil and tribute in honour of the late C. Mary-Claire Hurst on Friday, May 22, at The People’s Place on Lady Nugent Avenue.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and is being described as an evening of reflection, remembrance and solidarity.

In a notice posted on social media on Sunday, the party invited members of the public to attend and pay tribute to Hurst, whose passing prompted an outpouring of condolences from political and public figures across Antigua and Barbuda.

“Your presence will help illuminate an evening of reflection, gratitude, and tribute,” the ABLP said in the announcement.

Hurst, a longtime Labour Party supporter and former senator, was widely recognised for her service and dedication to public life and community development. During last week’s Senate swearing-in ceremony, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams paid tribute to her contribution to national development and parliamentary service, describing her as a committed public servant whose work left a lasting impact.

The vigil is expected to bring together party supporters, colleagues, friends and members of the wider public to celebrate her life and legacy.
