ABLP Leader Browne Urges Support for Kiz Johnson during energetic campaign BLITZ

Browne Urges ‘Renaissance’ Vote as Energetic Crowd Backs Kiz Johnson in St. Philip’s South
Music, chanting and a sea of red set the tone as Gaston Browne took the stage at a lively campaign event in St. Philip’s South, urging residents to back ABLP candidate Kiz Johnson in the April 30 general election.
Supporters waved flags, raised their fingers in unison and repeatedly chanted the candidate’s name, creating a rally atmosphere that blended party slogans with dancehall rhythms and call-and-response exchanges between speakers and the crowd.
Browne framed the election as a continuation of what he described as a national “renaissance,” telling supporters, “This is the renaissance… a new era of progress and development,” as he pointed to government initiatives in education, healthcare and housing.
He highlighted access to tertiary education as a major achievement, noting that Antiguans and Barbudans will soon be able to pursue legal studies locally. “From September this year, you can go right to Five Islands… before time, you had to go to Europe… spend tens of thousands of dollars,” he said.
Browne also touted housing and social support programmes, telling the crowd his administration has worked to improve living standards through home construction and assistance initiatives. “No other administration has done more… we will improve your living standards,” he said.
Turning to the candidate, Browne urged voters to elect Johnson as part of a push for greater female representation in Parliament. “Our Parliament is in need of more female representatives… let’s send another female to Parliament, another competent female who can represent you, who can defend you,” he said.
He described Johnson as a “homegrown talent” with deep roots in the constituency, adding that she was “someone you nurtured… someone who is dedicated to your empowerment.”
Johnson, addressing the crowd briefly, struck an energetic tone, declaring, “I am ready to serve the people… effective representation, proper representation,” as supporters cheered and echoed her call for victory on election day.
Throughout the evening, speakers and performers kept the momentum high, with repeated chants of “Kiz Johnson all the way” and promises of jobs, infrastructure upgrades and expanded opportunities under another ABLP term.
Browne closed by appealing to voters across political lines, saying the party remained inclusive while urging full support for Johnson. “It doesn’t matter your political persuasion… I am calling on each of you to support Kiz Johnson,” he said.
The event forms part of a wider push by the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party to consolidate support ahead of the upcoming polls, with St. Philip’s South emerging as a key battleground constituency.
