As the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) continues its preparations for the upcoming Expired Voter’s ID Card Replacement Programme, training for temporary workers began today (Monday) at the Parliament Building.
From one hundred and twenty -nine (129) applicants, twenty-five (25) were short listed to participate in three days of theoretical and practical training this week. Following this, the applicants will be assessed on their competences and assigned tasks in the Registration Units and Headquarters respectively.
Speaking during a brief opening ceremony, Member of the Commission, Mrs. Vernest Mack, congratulated the group on being selected so far and encouraged them to remain focused and to ask questions as necessary to fully understand the respective processes involved in the registration process.
Supervisor of Elections, Mr. Ian. S. Hughes, urged the participants to pay attention to all of the information that will be shared this week as the overall goal is to foster the development of well-rounded electoral professionals.
Among the topics that will be covered during the sessions are: Matters of the Law (The Representation of the People’s Amendment Act 2001, No.17 of 2001. Professionalism in the Workplace, Best Practices for Customer Service and Effective Communication.
In July, they will be further trained on the use of the Secure ID Elector Management System (SIDEMS).
The Expired Voter’s ID Card Replacement Programme will begin on Monday 12th August 2024 in all 17 constituencies.
