— The government has directed the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority to work with Blue Ocean to begin planned improvements at the Heritage Quay pier as quickly as possible, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said.

Browne provided the update during his weekly radio programme after a caller asked whether the work would be completed before the start of the upcoming cruise season.

“It will be,” Browne responded.

He said Cabinet had instructed the Port Authority, led by Darwin Telemaque, to coordinate with Blue Ocean to advance the project.

“The Cabinet has asked the Port Authority, led by Darwin Telemaque, to liaise with Blue Ocean and to get it done as soon as possible,” Browne said.

The prime minister indicated that work should begin shortly, although he did not provide a specific starting date, completion deadline or estimated cost.

Completing the improvements before the cruise season would be important to the operations and appearance of Heritage Quay, one of the main entry points for cruise passengers visiting St. John’s.

Further details about the scope of the project are expected to be provided as the Port Authority and Blue Ocean finalize arrangements.
