A 24-year-old Vincentian man has been fined $8,000 after pleading guilty to four offences arising from a crash that seriously injured national cyclist Tahje Browne.
Kishroy Harry admitted to dangerous driving, driving without the owner’s consent, driving without a valid driver’s licence, and driving without insurance after his vehicle struck Browne on Sir Sydney Walling Highway on June 20.
Harry was arrested at V.C. Bird International Airport the following day while attempting to board a flight to St. Vincent. The court also noted that he fled the scene after the collision.
Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel imposed fines of $2,000 on each charge. The court considered Harry’s remorse and guilty plea but weighed them against the seriousness of Browne’s injuries and his attempt to leave the jurisdiction.
