Christopher Johnson Wins Antigua and Barbuda’s First Medal at OECS Championships

Christopher Johnson has secured Antigua and Barbuda’s first medal at the 2026 OECS Track and Field Championships, claiming silver in the men’s shot put with a throw of 16.31 metres.
The achievement came on the opening day of competition at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium in Basseterre, St. Kitts, where athletes from across the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States are competing.
Johnson is part of a 16-member Antigua and Barbuda team selected by the Antigua and Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) for the championships, which run from July 4 to 5.
The national squad features five female and 11 male athletes competing across track and field events, including the sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, relays, jumps, throws and javelin.
The team is led by head coach Heather Samuel-Daley, with assistant coaches Kesswin Anthony and Daniel Bailey.
The ABAA congratulated Johnson on his performance, describing the silver medal as Antigua and Barbuda’s first podium finish of the championships.
