Antigua and Barbuda has been ranked the second most supportive country in the world of the United Nations-based multilateral system, according to the newly released Sustainable Development Report 2026.

The report’s Index of Countries’ Support for UN-Based Multilateralism (UN-Mi) placed Antigua and Barbuda second globally with a score of 88.3, behind only Barbados, which topped the rankings.

The index measures countries’ commitment to international cooperation through indicators including participation in UN institutions, ratification of international treaties, voting patterns at the United Nations General Assembly, financial contributions to the UN system, and support for global peace and development initiatives.

The report highlighted Barbados as the world leader in support for multilateralism, while Antigua and Barbuda’s second-place ranking placed it ahead of larger and more influential nations across the globe.

The rankings come at a time when Antigua and Barbuda continues to play an active role in international diplomacy, climate advocacy and the promotion of the interests of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) within global forums.

The Sustainable Development Report, produced annually by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), noted that support for multilateral cooperation remains critical to addressing challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, poverty reduction and global security.

The report also found that a large majority of countries continue to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals framework, despite growing geopolitical tensions in several regions.

Antigua and Barbuda’s strong showing in the index underscores the country’s longstanding commitment to international cooperation and engagement through the United Nations and other multilateral institutions.
