All Eyes on ARG as Giant Carnival Stage Goes Up

New Carnival Stage Installed at ARG Ahead of Summer Festival
A new grand stage is being installed at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG) as preparations intensify for Carnival 2026, with officials promising major upgrades designed to enhance the experience for performers and patrons alike.
The update was provided by Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant at Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing, where he indicated that work on the new stage is already underway at the country’s premier entertainment venue.
According to Merchant, the stage is significantly larger than previous installations and is expected to become a major feature of this year’s festivities.
“One of the comments about the new grand stage that has been procured by the government is that it’s almost as big as ARG,” Merchant said.
In addition to the new stage, officials are also planning improvements to the event’s sound system as part of efforts to modernize the Carnival experience. Merchant said a new sound system is expected to be introduced for the festival.
The upgrades form part of broader preparations for Antigua and Barbuda’s annual Summer Festival, which attracts thousands of patrons and visitors each year for weeks of cultural activities, music competitions and street celebrations.
Merchant said anticipation is already building among revellers as Carnival season approaches, noting that preparations are well underway across the country.
The Antigua Recreation Ground remains the focal point for many of Carnival’s marquee events, and officials expect the enhanced stage and sound infrastructure to improve production quality and accommodate larger performances during the 2026 celebrations.
