Former State Insurance executive manager Janice Hodge has won an unfair dismissal case against the government-owned insurer, with the Industrial Court ordering the company to pay nearly EC$500,000 in compensation and damages.

The court ruled that Hodge’s 2023 dismissal breached principles of natural justice and found the company failed to clearly outline the misconduct she was accused of after blaming errors under her supervision for a $9.8 million restatement of financial statements.

The judgment also concluded that the discrepancy was tied largely to outdated software and internal systems rather than Hodge personally.

The court further criticized the company for applying disciplinary standards inconsistently and warned against public statements identifying employees in connection with misconduct allegations before due process is completed.

Hodge was awarded compensation for notice pay, financial losses, exemplary damages and costs, with State Insurance ordered to pay the sum in instalments by June 2026.
