Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union Congratulates Malaka Parker on Senate Appointment

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union has congratulated former union president and shop steward Malaka Parker on her appointment to the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda.
In a statement posted Monday following Parker’s swearing-in ceremony at Government House, the union praised her advocacy on behalf of workers and ordinary citizens.
“Her steadfast advocacy on behalf of ordinary people has now been elevated to the national legislature, and we are confident that her diligent and passionate service will continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of workers and the wider community,” the union said.

Parker was officially sworn in earlier Monday as an opposition senator by Deputy Governor General Sir Clare Roberts after previously missing the initial investiture ceremony because of overseas travel.
Her appointment completes the opposition’s representation in the Upper House ahead of Wednesday’s sitting of the Senate.
