Gaston Browne to Be Sworn This Morning After Landslide Victory

Prime Minister Gaston Browne is set to be sworn in for another term in office today following a decisive general election victory that saw the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) secure 15 of the 17 seats in Parliament.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Government House in St. John’s.
Browne will take the oath of office as Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Corporate Governance and Public Private Partnerships, marking the start of his fourth consecutive term in office — an unprecedented achievement in Antigua and Barbuda’s modern political history.

Also scheduled to be sworn in is Steadroy Cutie Benjamin, who will serve as Attorney General and Minister for Legal Affairs, Public Safety and Labour.
The ceremony follows a dominant performance by the ABLP in Thursday’s general election, reinforcing the party’s grip on government and extending its time in office beyond a decade.
The outcome leaves the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) with just one seat in Parliament, while the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) retained its hold on Barbuda.
Attention now turns to the formation of the new Cabinet, with further appointments expected in the coming days as the administration begins its next term
