Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne expresses his sympathy to the Mason family on the passing of Philbert Mason
On behalf of the people and Government of Antigua and Barbuda, I express deepest condolences to the Philbert Mason family on the death of my compatriot, friend and comrade.
Philbert Mason is best known for his role in keeping calm the people of this country during extreme weather events that portend destruction and harm to our beloved Antigua and Barbuda.
His unmistakable voice before, during and after Hurricane Hugo in 1989, and Hurricane Luis in 1995, remain indelibly etched into our collective memories. He gave us assurances when the nation required his vocal expertise.
Philbert Mason served the political party of his choice, becoming a Vice Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party over several terms.
He was very generous in his support and encouraging of several candidates over many years. Always, he showed a willingness to give of his time, talent and treasure to make his country and its governance superior.
Philbert Mason’s contribution to nation-building has been outstanding.
He was honoured in the 1995 National Awards Ceremony for his involvement in the complex art of constructing a new Antigua and Barbuda. His skills as an entrepreneur were highly regarded, demonstrating the possibility of applying talent outside of his career choice.
Philbert Mason will be missed by all who knew him. Our nation has lost a son who is highly valued and much appreciated. May his soul rest peacefully and rise in paradise.
