The defeated candidate in the March 16, 2026, by-election in St. Philip North has returned to the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda.

Alex Browne, who suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the ABLP’s Randy Baltimore, was sworn in this morning.

Taking the oath of office, Browne pledged to “faithfully bear true allegiance to the State of Antigua and Barbuda, its Constitution and laws.”

He was congratulated by colleagues on both sides of the Senate.

In congratulating Browne, Senator Philip Shoul said he was hoping for a younger opposition senator in keeping their party’s promise to have more young people in the party’s leadership structure.

Browne will again face Baltimore after being named the UPP candidate for the constituency in the next general election, expected later this month.

This is not Browne’s first time in the Senate, he was appointed by Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle following the 2023 general election after his commendable performance against Veteran Politician Sir Robin Yearwood who retired this month after 50 years in parliament.
