Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association World Oral Health Day Parade a Resounding Success
The Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association (ABDA) proudly hosted a vibrant and engaging parade on Friday, March 20, 2026, in celebration of World Oral Health Day, bringing together children, healthcare professionals, educators, and community members in a powerful display of unity and health promotion.
Under the theme “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,” the streets came alive with colorful costumes, music, smiling faces, and enthusiastic community participation. Students from the Sunny Smiles Program proudly marched alongside volunteers, holding creative signs promoting oral health messages such as “Floss Like a Boss” and “Healthy Smile, Healthy Life.”
The parade was led by the energetic Bon Appétit Drum Corps, followed by costumed characters including the beloved Toothie mascot, dentists, coalition partners, volunteers, and medical students. Interactive photo frames added a fun and engaging element, allowing participants and spectators to capture memorable moments while reinforcing positive oral health messages.
Dr. Dickenson- Foster, Chairman of the Day, remarked: “This parade represents more than a celebration—it reflects our commitment to improving oral health awareness across Antigua and Barbuda. The level of community engagement, especially from our young people, was truly inspiring.”
Dr. Deborah Robinson-Akande, President of the ABDA, shared: “We are incredibly proud of what was achieved. This initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration in promoting preventive care and healthy lifestyles. Our children are at the heart of this movement, and their enthusiasm reminds us why this work is so important.”
The ABDA extends sincere gratitude to all who contributed to the success of this landmark event. Thank you to all of the Sunny Smiles Program students who marched with us! Special thanks to our sponsors, Lions Club International, Food Brokerage Services, and Billy’s Food Mart for their generous support.
We also gratefully acknowledge our coalition partner, the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross, along with their President, Dr. Jose Humphreys, and Mr. Ambrose, for their continued support of the Sunny Smiles Program and for providing ambulance services, first responders, and ensuring the safety of participants throughout the event.
We further extend our appreciation to: * Volunteers from the Ministry of Health * Volunteers from Antigua State College * Medical students from the University of Health Sciences Antigua, along with their President, Dr. Adedayo Akande, and Dean, Dr. Francesca Jack, who were also in the parade
We also recognize and thank the many additional volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a successful and impactful event.
This year’s celebration highlights Antigua and Barbuda’s growing leadership in oral health promotion and community engagement. The ABDA remains committed to advancing initiatives such as the Sunny Smiles Program, which continues to positively impact children’s lives nationwide.
