Record Participation Expected for National Interschool Championships

Nearly 700 young athletes are expected to compete in this year’s National Interschool Championships, with officials describing the upcoming athletics meet as one of the largest in modern times.
The competition, scheduled to run from March 12 to March 15 at the YASCO grounds, was highlighted during the weekly post-Cabinet media briefing as Cabinet members encouraged the public to support the event.
Director General of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Maurice Merchant, said the championships are anticipated to draw significant participation from schools across the country.
“The marketing team of the upcoming National Interschool Championships visited Cabinet to solicit their support in marketing the event, which is anticipated to be the largest in modern times with near 700 athletes participating,” Merchant said.
Cabinet members pledged their support for the competition and encouraged residents to attend and cheer on the athletes.
“Members were excited to participate and pledged their individual support and attendance at the event,” Merchant said.
The championships are among the most anticipated events on the national school sports calendar and will bring together student-athletes from across Antigua and Barbuda for several days of track and field competition.
Officials said the public is invited to attend and show support for the young competitors.
“The general public is invited to come out and support young athletes and the Cabinet sends its best wishes and success to all of the athletes,” Merchant said.
