ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus will host a Distinguished Public Lecture and Performing Arts Showcase on Thursday, March 12, bringing together scholarship and cultural performances in a free event open to the public.
The event, organized by the campus’ School of Humanities and Education, will feature a lecture by Professor Dave A. Louis of the University of Houston titled “Navigating Multiple Worlds: Caribbean Identity, Social Invisibility & Establishing Positionality in the Academy.”
The lecture will explore issues of Caribbean identity and the experiences of Caribbean scholars within global academic spaces.
In addition to the lecture, the programme will include a concert showcasing performances by the UWI FIC Singers, the Five Islands Primary School Choir, AGHS Honeybee Theatre and the Pandemonium Steel Orchestra.
The event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the UWI Five Islands Campus cafeteria.
Organizers say the showcase is intended to provide the public with an opportunity to engage with academic discussions rooted in Caribbean experiences while celebrating local performing arts talent.
Admission is free, and members of the public are encouraged to attend. Organizers have asked interested persons to RSVP by calling 1-268-484-3900, extension 141.
