Electoral Commission Extends St. Philip’s North Registration Hours as Card Activity Surges

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has extended operating hours at the St. Philip’s North Registration Unit following a sharp increase in voter card activity ahead of the March 16 by-election.

In a public notice dated February 25, ABEC announced that effective Thursday, February 26, the St. Philip’s North Registration Unit at the Glanvilles Community Centre will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The extended hours will remain in effect until Sunday, March 15.

The Commission urged residents to “be guided accordingly.”

The move comes as official figures show significant voter card activity within the constituency during the week of February 23 to 27.

According to ABEC’s official weekly report, St. Philip’s North recorded 36 replacement applications on February 23, 28 on February 24, and 42 on February 25 — the highest daily figure for that reporting period. The constituency posted a weekly total of 106 replacement applications, the largest in the country.

Across all constituencies, the Commission reported 144 replacement applications for the week, along with 38 new voter registration applications.

The data indicates that St. Philip’s North accounted for the majority of replacement card requests during the reporting period.

The by-election in St. Philip’s North follows the retirement of longtime parliamentary representative Sir Robin Yearwood. Polling is scheduled for March 16.
