The writ has been issued, formally triggering the electoral contest .

The by-election was called following the vacancy in the constituency long represented by Sir Robin Yearwood, who served 50 consecutive years in Parliament before stepping aside.

The governing Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has named Randy Baltimore as its candidate, while the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) is fielding former Senator Alex Browne.

The prime minister expressed confidence in his party’s chances, pointing to what he described as strong support during a recent town hall meeting in the constituency .

He also urged supporters to ensure their voter identification cards are renewed and validated in time for polling day .

The campaign has centered on infrastructure commitments for the eastern corridor, including plans for a new police station, fire station, pharmacy and dedicated ambulance service, alongside broader debates about national leadership and party continuity.

The March 16 vote will determine who represents St. Philip’s North in Parliament.
