Hon. Gaston A. Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda

Prime Minister Gaston Browne told Parliament that Sir Robin Yearwood’s 50 unbroken years of service mark a milestone unmatched in Antigua and Barbuda, the Caribbean and the wider Commonwealth.

Speaking during the special sitting, Browne said the MP for St Philip’s North had strengthened communities, shaped policy and reinforced democratic institutions over 11 consecutive terms since first being elected on February 18, 1976.

“Our nation is stronger because of Sir Robin’s service,” the Prime Minister said, adding that his legacy is reflected not only in parliamentary records but in generations of constituents who have benefited from his work.

Opposition MP Richard Lewis also praised the achievement, noting that Sir Robin “stands alone” and pointing to his consistent re-election as something other politicians should study.

Browne highlighted Sir Robin’s accessibility, saying he never operated a formal constituency office, instead keeping his home open to residents throughout his career.
