ABDF’s Inaugural Poppy Run Presents $8,000 Donation to the Ex-Servicemen Association

The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) marked a historic milestone in November 2025 with the hosting of its inaugural Poppy Run, a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at supporting the Ex-Servicemen Association of Antigua and Barbuda and providing meaningful financial assistance to those who have faithfully served the nation.
Supported by generous sponsors, partners, volunteers and civilians, the initiative represented more than a single event. It reaffirmed the Force’s enduring commitment to honouring the sacrifices of past servicemen and women while strengthening the long-term sustainability of the Association, recognizing that today’s soldiers will one day stand among their ranks.
After months of planning and coordination, the Poppy Run proved to be a resounding success. Through the dedication, resilience, and teamwork of the organizing committee and supporters, a total of $8,000 was raised in support of the Association.
The official handover ceremony was conducted on Thursday, 5th February 2026. The donation was formally presented by Poppy Run Event Lead, Lieutenant Jordane Mellanson, to Chairman of the Ex-Servicemen Association, Retired Warrant Officer Philmore Mullin and Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Ivor Walker.
On behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, sincere appreciation was extended to the organizing committee and all stakeholders whose collective efforts ensured the success of the inaugural event.
The ABDF remains steadfast in its mission to care for its military family, viewing the Poppy Run as the beginning of a meaningful and lasting tradition of remembrance, support, and solidarity.
