Antigua and Barbuda has the lowest number of refugees seeking asylum in Caricom

Jamaica recorded the highest figure at 11,453, accounting for over 60% of the regional total. The Bahamas followed at 2,742, then Trinidad and Tobago at 1,824.
Barbados, Dominica, and Saint Lucia each recorded between 400 and 800. At the lower end, St. Vincent and the Grenadines reported 337 and Antigua and Barbuda 133.
Across most countries, asylum seekers outnumber those with formal refugee status. Jamaica’s 11,453 total includes 9,176 asylum seekers and 2,277 recognised refugees The Bahamas shows an even wider gap: 2,567 asylum seekers versus 175 refugees.
For the majority, a final determination is still pending.

Research has documented several factors that lead Caribbean nationals to seek protection abroad, including LGBTQ+ persecution, gang-related threats, and domestic violence – though individual circumstances vary widely.
