OPINION: Harold Lovell’s Hunger for Power Will Destroy the UPP

vAs a lifelong supporter of the United Progressive Party (UPP), I typically refrain from public commentary on political matters. However, recent developments compel me to speak out as we stand at a crossroads that could mark the destruction of the party I have always championed.
It is essential to consider the actions of Harold Lovell and the implications they hold for the future of the UPP.
The Hon. Jamale Pringle currently serving as the political leader of the UPP and as leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition was duly elected by the party’s membership.
Instead of rallying around his leadership to forge a unified front in preparation for the upcoming elections, Lovell and his faction have emerged once again attempting to destabilize Pringle’s position.

This internal conflict poses a significant threat to the party’s unity and ultimately its electoral prospects.
Harold Lovell’s insatiable ambition is nothing new.
His thirst for power was evident during his failed attempt to unseat Baldwin Spencer, where he lost and subsequently turned his back on those who had supported him.
The trend continued with Joanne Masiah, whose promising potential was stifled by Lovell’s machinations.

Most recently, Richard Lewis found himself sidelined, demonstrating a recurring pattern of undermining anyone who poses a challenge to Lovell’s dominance.
Now, with Jamale Pringle at the helm, it is crucial for him to step boldly into his role as leader. Pringle has been a steadfast soldier for the party, often standing alone amidst the turmoil created by those like Lovell.
It is time for him to assert his authority, especially with the chaos stirred by Lovell’s faction. Despite Lovell’s history of losing three elections in a row as leader, he continues to pursue his ambitions, threatening to erode the UPP’s foundation.
For the UPP to have any chance of winning in the next election, a united front is paramount.
The party must support Jemale Pringle unequivocally, allowing him the opportunity to lead without the shadows of dissent encroaching upon his leadership.
The UPP cannot afford further internal strife; it jeopardizes not only the party’s image but also its viability in the political landscape.
In conclusion, I urge all UPP supporters to rally behind Jamale Pringle. The time for division is over; we must unify as a party to safeguard our future.
Harold Lovell’s relentless pursuit of power only serves to weaken our position.
Let us stand together and ensure that the UPP remains a formidable force in our political arena.
