The government plans to deliver 53 additional homes this year to vulnerable residents under the Home Advancement Programme for the Poor and Indigent (HAPPI), Prime Minister Gaston Browne said.

The announcement follows recent HAPPI handovers in communities including Swetes, Hatton and Parham, where families have received newly built or refurbished homes.

HAPPI provides safe and affordable housing to poor and indigent households through new construction or the supply of materials to repair existing homes. The government has also secured building materials valued at more than EC$1 million to support repairs and upgrades nationwide, which Browne said represents the largest such shipment imported for the programme.

Social and Urban Transformation Minister Rawdon Turner said HAPPI assistance is non-partisan and based on need, with priority given to households in the most precarious living conditions.

Officials say the expansion of HAPPI forms part of the government’s broader social protection agenda, aimed at improving living standards and strengthening communities across Antigua and Barbuda.
