PM Browne Says Government Focused on Sharing Economic Gains With All Citizens

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says economic growth must translate into real benefits for ordinary Antiguans and Barbudans, particularly the poor and most vulnerable, as the country records strong economic performance.

Appearing on the Morning Point Show, Browne said the government’s focus is not only on expanding the economy but on ensuring that prosperity is broadly shared. “We are determined to socialise the economic gains so that everyone benefits, including the poor and the vulnerable,” he said.

Browne stressed that headline growth figures mean little if citizens do not feel the impact in their daily lives. “Economic growth by itself is not enough if people cannot see and feel the benefits,” he told the programme.

The prime minister said the administration’s policy approach is aimed at ensuring that development improves living standards across society, rather than concentrating wealth in a narrow segment of the population. “The objective is to make sure that ordinary people benefit from the growth that is taking place,” he said.

His remarks come amid ongoing public discussion about cost-of-living pressures, even as Antigua and Barbuda continues to record strong performance in tourism and related sectors.

Browne said inclusive growth is essential for long-term stability, arguing that economic success must be matched by social responsibility. “When growth is shared, it strengthens the entire society,” he said.
