MP Warns of Scammers Targeting Judy Thomas-Ward Fundraiser

St. Mary’s South MP Kelvin Simon is urging the public to remain vigilant amid reports that scammers are attempting to exploit a fundraising appeal for former national footballer Judy Thomas-Ward, who is battling cancer and needs urgent treatment in Colombia.
Simon told Observer Media Group that fraudsters have been circulating false banking details to potential donors. He said he was alerted by a concerned supporter who received incorrect account information, stressing that only verified channels should be used.
The MP described the alleged activity as reprehensible and urged donors to contribute only through approved avenues, including direct payments to Thomas-Ward or the official GoFundMe campaign. He called on the public to verify all information before donating so fraudulent efforts can be identified and stopped.
Simon, who has known Thomas-Ward since childhood in Bolans, praised her as a role model and highlighted her achievements in football and education. He also appealed for national support, saying it is a moral responsibility to rally around those in crisis.

Thomas-Ward, 43, is a Bolans resident, a former youth and senior national footballer who also played for SAP Football Club. She has worked at the Ministry of Labour for about two decades and later served as a football referee.
Donations can be made through the Not Pan My Team Community League, the official GoFundMe page, or by calling 780-4816, 780-8099, 780-0929, or 771-4727 for more information.
